A set of repousse sterling silver carving knife and fork. There is a steel bladed carving knife that holds a very sharp edge, with a handle that depicts an 17th century hunter with a lance and animal. The reverse of the handle shows a branch, leaves, a bird and hunter's pouch. This is all repousse work and very finely done. There is a good deal of wear to the blade, but it is excellent steel. The handle is worn but no dings. The complimentary fork is 2 pronged steel with a large steel prop for table use. The handle, also in repousse, shows a female cook holding a large roasted bird, the reverse handle shows a branch and leaves with a hanging bird. Both pieces are marked sterling with some hard to read hallmarks. This set is probably English from the 19th century. It would have been crafted for a wealthy family. In wonderful used condition and very useable today. |
