Gort Pottery is justly famed for its exquisite modeling and attention to detail. This Madonna is a work of the potter's art. Clean lines and delicate coloring illuminate the purity of the subject. Gort, while successful at first and reknowned today, closed in 1955 because of the economic impact of cheap imports from recovering Germany and Japan.
