Art Nouveau bookends made by Armor Bronze Co. of Tauton,Massachussetts. Armor Bronze was begun in 1915 and continued until about 1962. This pair of a child reading a book was made about the 1920s, from a bronze casting by the Italian artist S. Morani, who was working in the US at the time. They are signed by the artist. The bookends are in excellent condition. Contrary to popular belief they did not make bronze bookends but copper and applied the richly colored patinas for which they are famous. They are still quite heavy. Packed weight will be about 9 lbs. 6.5" tall 5.5" deep and 4" wide. Beautifully molded, they also have the original retail shop tag, showing they were sold in Oakland,CA by Marcoms, the House of Beautiful Things. |
