Dragonware Tea Set with Lithopane Geishas
A Dragonware teaset in the black and grey tones. The teapot is 7.5" tall, there is a creamer and sugar bowl with lid and 5 demitasse size cups and saucers. The bottom of the cups reveal the head of a Geisha when held to the light. This technique is called lithopane. In very good condition. No chips cracks or crazing. This tea set has 5 cups as is the Japanese custom to have an odd number of place settings. There is only one marked piece which is a small tidbit dish which I am including. I don't believe this was intended for export due to the number of cups and the absence of markings on each piece.
Circa: pre WWII
Type: China
Country of Origin: JP
Manufacturer: Noritake
